birthday present

my mom celebrated her 58th birthday the other day and unfortunately, i forgot the date and only remembered it when she told me in a phone call. that was pretty lame but she understood it and of course, forgave me. why not, when she had a fun day! she had her friends celebrating her birthday way before wednesday, she got a morning serenade, and a gift from my dad.

actually, she was giggly over papa's gift for her! she didn't expect it really, she said, because the thing that delivered it was a truck. anyway, she got three red roses and a card. later i found out from my dad what's written on the card:

i love you more than ever...

how sweet. yes, mama was right. as they grow older, papa becomes more romantic each day!

rubber shoes

and when i was just comfortable with my jeans and rubber shoes at the office because, a) it's cold and i need to wear closed shoes, and b) my uniform doesn't fit me anymore, my boss had to go on berating me on the policy of wearing corporate clothes!

as if everybody follows that rule! almost everybody in the admin department doesn't wear their uniform, or just wear casual clothes (even slippers) during office days! so what's the problem with me then, wearing casual, especially rubber shoes, during a thursday? an important meeting was cancelled and that meant i won't have to face other people so what's he yapping for? i mean, i know i'm delinquent who doesn't follow most of the rules (i've done it before) but how come he just zeroed in on me like that? i'm really taking this personally. i don't care what my girl friends say about it.

but what pisses me of is my unexpected reaction of wanting to cry because he berated me. it's just that i can't answer him back. why was he mad because i wore my rubber shoes to work? corporate look, my ass! when he himself dresses in corporate attire with matching sneakers?! well! enough of this! i just hate my afternoon! i'm glad i'll not be at the office tomorrow, thank God!

love - my parents' way

there are a lot of things i want to write about. actually, i had been thinking about it the last couple of days, but tonight, there is only one thing in my mind. a conversation i heard last christmas from the people i love most -- my parents.

as usual, i can't help but think that the older my parents get, the more they actually become like children, especially my papa. they always bicker, ending with my mama telling me all about it (nagsusumbong) and later with my papa complaining that mama fought with him again. but everytime, it all ends up in laughter when they talk about it. this one night was no different. after they bickered during the day, they were telling us how papa ended the conversation after mama asked this question:

"pano na lang kung wala na ako dito? (how will it be then when i am gone?)"

papa answered her, "ewan ko, mama, dahil susunod na ako sa iyo. di ko kaya wala ka... (i don't know, mama, because i will follow you right away. i can't do it without you.)"

aren't my parents sweet? i wish, when my time comes, i'll find somebody like my dad. someone who'll love me very much that he can't do living when i am gone...

early morning cry

it was still dawn dark this morning, when i was getting ready for work, that i heard a cry outside that reminded me of home and the good old days of childhood -- carefree and sweet --

"pandesal! bili na kayo ng pandesal."

i remember the boy riding his bike early in the morning just before we all sat down at the table for breakfast. it was a time when i saw my parents dip that piece of tasty bread in the coffee and kid to us that as a joke, they say that filipinos are very clean because even their food, they wash first before eating. i remember cutting that piece of bread by fork just to get to the soft part and put on cheese spread...

yes, that was the good old times. now, i live separately from my parents and the pandesal boy rarely pass by our street. besides, the pandesal are quite expensive now.

Saturday Hotair Balloon Plan

So for those who are going to celebrate my birthday with me on Saturday at the Hotair Balloon Festival, here's my big Saturday outing plan:

C and I leave for Clark via the Victory Liner bus station at Edsa at around 5am. Or it can be earlier or later, depending on what time we're going to wake up. We are hoping to arrive just as the balloons are ready to take their Dawn flight. From there on, we will be meeting with a couple of my college friends and classmates and officemates. We will make the most of it but if we get bored, we'll probably call it a time for Duty Free shopping at one of the PX stores in the area, maybe Puregold. I just hope that they'll have the Brazilian nuts I'm craving for. Lunch will depend on where A wants to eat or where she thinks is best. In the afternoon, we'll have to look for some shaded area where we can just lie around while some of us will try our hands on kite-flying. Now that is what C is looking forward to do since she has never, never flown a kite before! There will also be a Kapamilya show according to the schedule.

The balloons will probably be set-up again around 430p and be "operational" by 6p. It might be good if we could set-up near the gates so as when there's a chance to go inside the field where the balloons are set-up, we don't have to run a long way. Maybe we could even talk to the guards to let us in early. I hope they'll be kind as that day is My Day! :)

Leisure dinner is optional in Pampanga. Again, this will depend on what time we'll get tired of the Night Glow show. If it's still early, maybe we could ask A again to bring us to another place. I'd like to try out the burger in the "American Strip" there. If not, then we'll just have to grab a bite at Jollibee or McDonald's near the Dau bus station. Hopefully, we could get a ride back to Manila by 9p so that it won't be too late when we arrive home.

What else? Ah, things to bring (I just hope I won't forget them either!):

- sleeping bag or banig
- food (let's make this a picnic day! I want sandwiches if you want to share *grin*)
- sarong
- hats
- sunglasses
- sunblock
- Camera! even if your cam's chipipay compared to those who'd be bringing their hi-end cameras, just bring it along with you. You'll never know what good shots you'll be able to take and the good memory it will give you when you get old... hehehe :)
- Money! (entrance to the festival is PhP100)
- bag with ample space for that duty free shopping!

Another reminder is to wear comfortable clothes. Tsinelas are okay. There's no dress code.

What else? If I forgot something, just leave a message before Saturday!

So, I'll see you there! We'll have great fun ahead! Don't forget my present! :)
